The Shocking Truth About Food

Almost all the foods people are eating today have been genetically modified, not to make them more nutritious but to keep the bugs from eating them, to increase shelf-life, to make them bigger, to make them more attractive, and to make more money.  Unfortunately the flavor and taste of these modified products is not even close to what it should be, and the nutrition is long gone.

Did you know that Americans spend 90% of their food dollars on processed foods?

Instead of spraying corn with pesticides, Monsanto had a better idea.  They changed the DNA of the corn to have pesticides in the DNA so when corn grows the pesticide automatically emits from the corn.  They say it doesn’t have enough toxins left to harm us, but corn today is regulated as a pesticide.

How about gluten intolerance?  It’s epidemic today!  Do you know that we have genetically modified wheat more than 8 times in the last 40 years?  Our bodies are finally saying TIME OUT!. . . I don’t get it.  I don’t recognize it.  Is it food?  And your body is rejecting it because it doesn’t recognize it as real food.

And this is not happening just to wheat.  It’s happening to many other products that we eat on a daily basis.  Strawberries have been genetically modified over 17 times in the last 20 years.

How about those boxes of blueberry muffin mix you see at the grocery store with pictures of blueberries on them?  You won’t find a blueberry in it.

Dead moths from Mexico are used to color blueberry yogurt.  These same moths were originally used to dye fabric blue.  Continue reading The Shocking Truth About Food

Get Fat! Omega-3 Fatty Acids That Is.

Omega-3 SupplementsWhen the words oils and fats are mentioned, health-conscious individuals tend to run for cover. What they fail to realize is that there are good fats and bad fats.  Complete avoidance of intake of oils and fats would actually be detrimental – rather than beneficial – to their health.

The Truth about Fish Oil

Essential fatty acids must always be part of our daily diet – without them, we take one step closer to our deaths.  Essential fatty acids are divided into two families: omega-6 EFAs and omega-3 EFAS.

Although there are only very slight differences to distinguish the two groups of essential fatty acids from each other, studies have revealed that too much intake of omega-6 EFAs can lead to inflammation, blood clotting and tumor growth.  The good news, however, is that the opposite is true for omega-3 EFAs.  Omega-6 EFAs can be found in vegetable oils while omega-3 EFAs can be found in fish oils among other foods.

Omega-6 vs. Omega-3

Physicians and scientists believe that the imbalanced intake of omega-3 and omega-6 EFAs is the cause behind increasing cases of various health problems.

As mentioned earlier on, omega-6 EFAs can be found in vegetable oils.  This includes but is not limited to corn oil and soy oil, both of which contain high amounts of linoleic acid.  Omega-3 EFAs on the other hand can be found also in marine plankton and walnut and flaxseed oils.  It should be significant to take note that fatty fish and fish oils contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), fatty acids that have been observed to provide many benefits to the human body.  In the early 1970’s, a study on Greenland Eskimos have revealed that one of the major reasons why they rarely suffer from heart problems is because of their high-fat diet (mainly composed of fish).  Continue reading Get Fat! Cancer Panel Fingers Toxic Chemicals

householdchemsThis post on the link between toxic chemicals and cancer from 2010 has been updated on 9/19/2016 to include a link at the bottom to the most recent report from The President’s Cancer Panel.

In a report from the mainstream of scientific and medical thinking, the President’s Cancer Panel released a report in May, 2010 declaring that chemicals threaten our health.  This validates the concerns that many people have had about the effects of toxins on our health.

The panel is not some environmental fringe group with an agenda.  Established in 1971, the panel reports directly to the president and is comprised of 3 distinguished experts who review America’s cancer program.

In their 200 page report, the Cancer Panel recommends a much more vigorous regulation of chemicals, concluding that chemicals can have a far-reaching impact on our health.

We are exposed to toxic chemicals in the air we breathe, in the water we drink, and in the food we eat.  The proliferation of chemicals in water, air, foods, and household products is suspected as a factor in the increase in some cancers, particularly in children.  Continue reading Cancer Panel Fingers Toxic Chemicals
