Who Decides Who Lives and Who Dies?

The short answer to the question “Who decides who lives and who dies?” is God.  But it turns out that the answer to the question is a little bit more complicated.

Human beings have inserted themselves into the decision-making process on this issue.  Witness the actions of concentration camp overseers in World War II or people today who choose to abort their babies.

Our involvement in making life and death decisions for ourselves appears to be completely appropriate whereas others making such decisions for us is alarming.

Maintaining our own health appears to be more important than ever, given the formation of the Federal Coordinating Council For Comparative Effectiveness Research here in the U.S.  The U.S. Government through the health care bill passed in March, 2010 has gotten into the act of deciding who is to live and who is to die.
